For the past 6 years a collective group of people have been organizing the “Red Barn Concert.” Our goal is to provide a community based, family friendly evening of entertainment, where we are also giving back to the community, and raising money for local charities. Red Barn is a collaborated evening of music, film, camping, kid’s activities, food and community. The event takes place on a 40 acre farm with many friendly animals such as horses, cows, chickens, goats, and even a peacock. The music takes place in the signature red barn, an intimate venue with a warmth and uniqueness that gives the Red Barn Concert its wonderful charm. The property also includes a bonfire area that can accommodate a large group of people that after the main event transforms into a beautiful moonlit and fire lit speakeasy, surrounded by a natural prairie landscape. This year will be our second year of short films added to the festivities. Some past charities that have received the profits of the event have been: Camp Aurora, St Francis Place, Nova House and Camp Stepping Stones. This year’s beneficiary will be Sunshine House, located in Winnipeg, Mb. Please read on for more information.
2018 Charity: Sunshine House
Sunshine House is a community drop-in and resource centre focusing on harm reduction, population health promotion, and social inclusion. We are a gap filling organization that works with folks in under-served populations, providing programming that fulfills people’s social, community, and recreational needs. We use a harm reduction approach in our programming, meaning that people come as they are, and are not expected to be “clean” or sober.
Sunshine House has successfully engaged with participants by providing a space and programming where everyone is welcome, without judgement. The values and principals used to guide are work are:
